PVC Schedule 40 fittings are injection moulded from unplasticised PVC to the Schedule 40 wall series: pressure-rated at ambient temperature, resistant to acids and alkalis, non-conductive, and joined by solvent weld in a single operation.
Schedule 80 shares the PVC-U material of Schedule 40 but carries one wall class more at the same nominal size, so it holds higher working pressure; the dark grey body marks the difference on site. It is the usual choice for commercial and industrial water lines, pump rooms and water treatment skids.
PVC DWV fittings serve gravity drain, waste and vent systems. They carry no internal pressure, so the design work sits in the flow path: bends and sanitary tees curve into the main, wyes join at 45°, and solids travel with the water instead of settling at the joint.
ABS drainage fittings are lighter than PVC at the same size, take impact better at low temperature and cure fast under solvent weld, which suits residential stacks and prefabricated plumbing packs assembled on site in North America.
PP-R is random copolymer polypropylene: pipe and fitting fuse into one body at the socket, so the joint carries no adhesive, no thread and no gasket, and the system is designed for continuous hot water service at 70 °C with transient peaks to 95 °C — the basis for hot and cold supply, underfloor and radiant heating, central air conditioning and industrial liquid transfer.
PVC hose is extruded from plasticised PVC, with a fiber braid, a steel helix or a steel-and-fiber composite worked into the wall depending on the duty, trading flexibility against pressure in different proportions.
OSB is built from long wood strands laid in oriented layers — lengthwise on the faces, crosswise in the core — and hot pressed into a panel; the overlapping strands let the board carry load in both directions, giving it higher nail-holding and bending strength than ordinary particleboard.
Fiber and particle boards are made by blending wood fiber or wood flakes with resin and hot pressing the mat into a panel. The result is uniform, free of knots and without a grain direction, so it grooves, edge-bands and laminates predictably — the usual substrate for furniture panels, flooring cores and interior decorative sheets.
